Pharaoh Rath slumbered in his sarcophagus in the vast necropolis-city of Nehkesharr; the thick stone and gold shell providing relief from the annoyance of the incessant buzzing life forces of distant creatures. Over the centuries, this buzzing became louder as populations grew, but the Great Pharaoh Zhar-Teph did not allow Rath the pleasure of cleansing the land. It was not yet time.
Then one day ripples of ancient magic stirred Rath from his slumber once more. He appeared in audience before Zhar-Teph and learned about the newly active Shard of Domivar. It could bring great power to the Empire. With it the living could be ground to dust.
Rath secured the privilege of searching for the newly active Shard of Domivar. He roused his long slumbering legions of Revenants and hateful enslaved Djinn. The high priests blessed him with an ancient Monolith and an active Idol of Shobik, the ancient god. With this army at his command, Rath went out from Nehkesharr in pursuit of the Shard.
The Shard is Rath’s task and mission, but his true goal is the pleasure of silencing the ever irritating, ever buzzing, lives of the living.
